How  does it work ?

First the damaged video cassette is striped down, cleaned, inspected and repaired, damaged or worn parts are replaced or the video tape reels are removed and inserted into a new video cassette housing with a new set of parts i.e. guide rollers, reel brakes, etc. If the video tape has been snapped or twisted, a repair  (splice) will be carried out. When the tape is operational your video recording is converted to a digital and a standard video to DVD transfer will be completed for you. For additional security of your important recording, the DVD or DVDs will be sent out to you first by 1st Class recorded delivery and your original video tape will be safely stored for you. Once you have received your DVD and confirmed with us that all is OK, we can then return your original video cassette or recycle /dispose of it locally for you, depending on your chosen option.    When a videotape has been damaged and repaired we recommend that it is not played in a domestic videotape player or camcorder as this may cause damage to the machine (your original video cassette will be labelled with a warning as appropriate).

What does the Video tape Rescue Service include ?

* Your video tape is striped down cleaned and inspected, repair / rescue work is carried out or the tape spools are placed into a replacement cassette.

The cassette case is broken or has damaged or missing parts.

The damaged video cassette is striped down and inspected, broken, worn or missing parts are replaced or the video tape is removed and placed into a new cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc

Video tape Rescue & Transfer to DVD Online Order Form > > >

The video tape won't move, or the video cassette is ejected by the player.

Inside the video cassette are several mechanical parts including the cassette brake, this is like the parking brake on a car. It stops the tape reels from spilling out the tape when the cassette is outside the player or camcorder. Normally the cassette brake is automatically released when the tape is put into the player / camcorder, however if it fails to release due to faulty parts the tape will not move and in some players will automatically be ejected and in other older players could cause the tape to snap.
We repair or replace the faulty parts, or the video tape is removed and placed into a new cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc.

The player won't accept or rejects the video cassette

If problems occur when you push the video cassette into the tape slot on your video player i.e. it stops and is not accepted or the the player rejects it pushing back out again. This is often caused by a slightly bent or distorted cassette case.  To fix this problem the videotape is removed and placed into a new cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc

D.I.Y Attempted repair !

It looks quite simple and it is relatively easy to gain access to a video tape cassette, usually by removing 4 or 5 small screws however it is not so easy to carry out the repair, re-assemble the video tape cassette and make it operational again. We have had many phone conversation with customers who have found this out to their horror, if this has happened to you then we can help, if possible remove any loose springs and other mechanical parts that could damage the tape in transit and keep the tape spools inside the cassette housing, or just send the spools very carefully pack so that the tape does not become unwound or screwed up causing further damage. We have replacement cassette housing including all the mechanical parts i.e. brakes, tape guides, rollers, flaps, springs etc and can get your tape operational again and transfer the recording to a DVD or DVDs

Video tape Rescue & Transfer to DVD Online Order Form > > >

The tape has suffered from Mould related problems

This is becoming more of a problem, when video tapes have been stored for a long time they can be contaminated by mould. If when looking trough the tape window a white powdery substance or growth can be seen then the tape has been contaminated. we strongly recommend that you do not play the tape as it could damage your recording and contaminate your player and other tapes played on the machine.

We can rescue the recording from most Mould contaminated VHS and analogue Camcorder tapes with our Video Tape Rescue Service. The video cassette is striped down, cleaned and inspected, damaged or contaminated  parts are replaced or the video tape reels are removed and inserted into a replacement cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc. Once the tape has be made operational, the recording will be rescued (captured to a digital file and transferred to a DVD for you).

Mould contamination usually indicates the presents of moisture, in some cases tapes showing signs of mould may also have other more serious problems: tape ribbon contamination, deterioration due to moisture being adsorbed by the tape, tape welding etc

The tape has suffered from Flood and Water Contamination

This is becoming quite a problem in the UK and we have rescued recordings from several flood damage VHS tapes recently.

We can rescue the recording from most flood damaged VHS videotapes with our Video Tape Rescue Service. The video cassette is striped down, the tape spools are removed dried and cleaned, any damaged rusty or contaminated  parts are replaced or the video tape spools are  inserted into a replacement cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc. Once the tape has be made operational, the recording will be rescued (captured to a digital file and transferred to a DVD for you).

Providing the tapes are sent to us early enough we can usually rescue the recordings with our rescue service, however in some cases where the tape has been contaminated by Sea water / Dirty water more serious problems could be encountered and recovery work may be required >more information

I accidentally dropped my video camera out of the 20th floor of an apartment block and it smashed to pieces, of course. DVDedit expertly recovered the video media from the MiniDV tape which was badly damaged from the fall and at an unbelievably good price. This is a great service and I cannot recommend it enough.

Video tape Rescue Service (Repair and Transfer to DVD).
Excellent. Very impressive indeed ... I was absolutely delighted with the extremely friendly, very high quality service and expertise in restoring an old treasured tv film from a white mould/dust covered and snapped 1989 VHS cassette tape ... transferring the film to DVD with briliant results. I will definitely be a return customer.
Video tape Rescue Service (Repair and Transfer to DVD).
My vhs tape was 22 years old and all the family thought that it was past repair. As this was the only copy we had in the family I sent my order off to DVD edit. Within 3 days I had an e-mail confirming receipt and another 2 days later an e-mail to confirm that my DVD was in the post. I was most impressed at the response time and when the DVD arrived they had managed to transfer the tape - which we all thought was no good - on to DVD with amazing results. Well done DVD edit for your prompt response and handling of my very precious VHS tape. I would reccommend them to anyone who has a VHS tape which they may think is past repair to use their services.

I can honestly say that the speed of service and professionalism given by dvd edit is second to none. Not only was my VHS tape fixed (which was of huge relief) but the reassuring and consistent mannner in which I was dealt with was fabulous. Thank you dvd edit for being a rare find of excellence in these busy and poorly customer focussed times. If only every service company could be as efficient! Thanks again - I will be back Alison

Not sure of video tape recording duration

We understand that if your tape is broken, damaged or can't be played then it is very difficult for you to know the duration of the recording to be rescued / repaired and transfered.
We only charge for the DVDs that we make up for you, so if you order a 'double disc set' in case the recording is over 2 hours and we find the recording is less and fits onto a single DVD we will reduce payment or give you a credit.
If paying by Debit or Credit card online via Google checkout we will reduce the payment or refund the over payment
If paying by cheque we are not able to collect part of the payment so we will issue you with a credit to the value of the over payment to be used with any future orders
If you prefer you can send 2 separate cheques i.e. one cheque for the cost of a single DVD and a cheque for the additional cost of a second DVD (double disc set) if the additional payment is not needed it will be returned with the DVD. Alternatively you can leave the payment section of the cheque blank and we will fill it in for you for the correct amount..

Sending Your Video and Camcorder Tapes to us.

We strongly  recommend sending your video  and camcorder tapes by royal mail special delivery or another trusted courier
Smaller camcorder tapes are best sent in their original plastic case in a good quality bubble wrap style envelope please label both the tapes and cases.
Full size VHS video tapes are heavy and can easily be damaged, we advise sending them in cardboard sleeves the type normally associated with blank VHS tapes, using a good quality bubble wrap style envelope or wrapped cardboard box. If possible try to bind the video tapes together (Clinging film type food wrap works well) or pack tightly to avoid movement and possible damage by colliding with each other if the package is shaken. Please ensure the actual video tapes are labelled  not just the sleeves.
If possible send an e-mail advising us of the delivery and tracking details if available, we will send a return e-mail advising of their arrival with us.>Contact us

Can I use my DVD for editing?

There is not a simple answer to this question. With most domestic editing software you can't edit from a DVD without first converting the video content of the DVD to a suitable editable digital file usually Mpeg2 this is commonly known as ripping the DVD. Some more recent software may have DVD file importer / converter included that will allow you to convert the files from our DVDs.

With our Rescue and transfer service we can also o produce an  Mpeg2 format digital file that is suitable for use with most  "Windows" based PC editing software and we can supply a copy of this file for you on a DVD data disc for a small additional cost normally £5.The Mpeg2 file can be copied to your Hard Disc Drive on your computer and imported into suitable editing software  without having to be previously converted. (please note an Mpeg2 file will not play on most DVD recorders)

Can I make copies of my DVD?

Yes

The DVD is made from video material you supply so we do not put any restrictions on copying the DVD discs.
However our current additional copy price of £5 or down to £3.34 if you order 3 additional copies (Professionally produced and presented the same as the main copy) may be worth considering.)
